Hello and Welcome!
Weaving is the new black. I'm obsessed with my new obsession.... Weaving.
What is nicer than sitting in a nice warm sunny spot and weaving to your hearts content? Nothing. (it's winter here in Australia).
So here is my stash of thrift found wool. omgosh! I felt like I'd won lottery when I was leaving the thrift shop with it. You can imagine.
I didn't want to wait until I can have a 'proper' weaving loom made, soooo I went along and created a loom out of cardboard.
make your own loom
You can find a great tutorial on making the one I made here. It's very simple.
I also found a tapestry frame and I'll turn it into a weaving loom frame.
In the image above you can see the weaving tools that I made by hand using balsa wood and, while I'm waiting on my order from the amazingly talented Andrea over at Loom and Spindle, I'll use a fork for combing down the weave into place.
pick your Nanna's brains. This seventies craft is re-taking the world by storm. Your mum or your Nanna may have fond memories of this trend from their seventies hey day. Pick her brains about weaving techniques! It will be a wonderful way to connect.
(If you're like me and don't actually have a Nanna you can search the googlesphere for tutorials and books on weaving).
Weaving gives one the freedom to create art abstractly. I'm loving it. These wall hangings from All Roads show how diverse a weave design can be.
Pick a colorful design or keep to more natural tones. It doesn't matter because the end result will be amazing.
Weaving is easier and quicker than knitting or crochet (trust me). It's liberating to artistic senses because there is no limit by anything but imagination.
Check out this natural weave from Native Line.
Are you hooked? *wink
See you soon xxo
